Turn More Google Ads Leads Into Qualified Pipeline

prove Your Google Ads Lead Quality

Key takeaways

1.

Lead form extensions raise lead volume but often lower B2B demo quality.

2.

Judge lead forms by cost per qualified pipeline, never cost per lead.

3.

Always use More qualified mode, work email fields, and mandatory qualifying questions.

4.

Send CRM outcomes back to Google, or bidding will chase junk leads.

5.

Lead forms usually fit low-ACV, high-volume SaaS better than enterprise demo motions.

A Google Ads lead form extension (now called a lead form asset) lets people send you their contact details inside the ad, without visiting your website. For B2B SaaS demo campaigns, it usually brings more leads at a lower cost per lead, but fewer of those leads become real sales meetings.

That is the short answer. The longer answer is more useful, because lead forms are not "good" or "bad." They are a tool that works in some sales motions and quietly burns budget in others.

This guide helps you understand how the Google Ads lead form works in 2026, what changed in Google's rules this year, why demo lead quality often drops, when lead forms do make sense for SaaS, and exactly how to test one without polluting your bidding data.

Let’s get started.

Quick answer: Should B2B SaaS use lead form extensions for demos?

 • No, not as your main demo path. Send demo traffic to a focused landing page first.
 • Test them only if your deal size is small, your sales team can call leads within minutes, and you can import qualified outcomes back into Google Ads.
 • If you test, use "More qualified" mode, a work email field, 2 to 3 mandatory qualifying questions, and phone verification.
 • Measure success by cost per sales-qualified lead (SQL) and pipeline, not cost per lead.

What Is a Lead Form Extension in Google Ads?

A lead form extension is a Google Ads asset that opens a short form inside the ad. The searcher taps the form, and Google pre-fills details like name, email, and phone from their Google account. They submit without ever loading your website.

Google renamed all ad extensions to "assets" in 2022, so the official name today is lead form asset. Most marketers still search for "lead form extension," and both terms mean the same thing.

If you are new to the asset family, our guide to Google Ads ad assets explains how sitelinks, callouts, and lead forms fit together.

A lead form has five parts:
Part | What it does | Limit
Call to action | The button text in the ad, such as "Get quote" or "Book demo" style options | Pick from Google's list
Headline and description | Shown at the top of the form | 30-character headline, 200-character description
Business name | Your brand on the form | 25 characters
Questions | Contact fields plus optional qualifying questions | At least one contact field is required
Submission message | What people see after they submit, plus an optional link | Headline and description
You must also add a privacy policy link. Google shows it at the bottom of the form.

How Does a Google Ads Lead Form Work in 2026?

A Google Ads lead form works in one of two ways, depending on your conversion goals.

 1. Lead form as the headline action. If "Submit lead form (Google hosted)" is the only conversion goal in the campaign, clicking the responsive search ad headline opens the lead form directly. No website visit happens.
 2. Lead form as one asset among many. If the campaign has other conversion goals too, the headline goes to your website. The lead form shows as an extra asset under the ad.

According to Google's lead form documentation, lead forms serve in Search and Performance Max campaigns, on desktop and mobile. Each campaign can have only one lead form, and only responsive search ads are supported.

Here is the user flow for a typical B2B searcher:

 1. They search "SOC 2 compliance software demo."
 2. They see your ad and tap the lead form.
 3. Google fills in their name, Gmail address, and phone.
 4. They answer any qualifying questions you added.
 5. They tap submit and see your thank-you message.

Step 3 is the reason lead forms get high conversion rates. It is also the reason B2B lead quality often falls. We will get back to this later in this blog.

What Changed With Google Ads Lead Forms in 2026?

In July 2026, Google quietly updated its lead form documentation. Search Engine Land reported that the old $50,000 lifetime spend requirement no longer appears in the main help pages.

The key changes:

 • Spend rule: The $50,000 threshold is gone from the main help page. The listed path is now for "reputable advertisers" spending more than $1,000 per account or $15,000 across accounts, who complete Advertiser Verification.
 • Campaign types: The overview now lists Search and Performance Max. Video and Display were removed from the overview.
 • Lead delivery: Email notifications and Zapier were added beside CSV, webhooks, and the API.
 • Quality features: Google now stresses OTP (one-time password) phone verification and qualifying questions.

For SaaS teams, it makes it easier for many more accounts to use lead forms. Lower barriers mean more marketers will turn them on by default. That makes it more important to know when they hurt your pipeline.

Lead form eligibility requirements at a glance
Requirement | 2026 rule
Policy history | Good history of policy compliance
Vertical | Must be an eligible vertical (sensitive verticals excluded)
Spend path | Over $1,000 per account or $15,000 across accounts, plus Advertiser Verification
Bidding | A conversion-focused bid strategy
Conversion goal | Optimize toward a Google lead form goal
Ad format | Responsive search ads only
Privacy policy | Required link on the form
Country | Must target a supported country
What Fields Can a B2B Lead Form Collect?

A Google Ads lead form can collect standard contact fields, work fields, and up to 5 pre-built qualifying questions. This matters for SaaS, because the right fields are your first quality filter.

Contact fields: full name, first and last name, email, phone number, postal code, city, region, country.

Work fields (use these for B2B):

 • Work email
 • Work phone
 • Company name
 • Job title

Pre-built business questions useful for SaaS:

 • What size is your company?
 • What is your job role?
 • What is your job department?
 • When are you looking to make a purchase?
 • What is your annual sales volume?

You can also write your own multiple-choice questions. Per Google's qualifying responses guide, when you mark certain answers as "qualifying," Google tags those submissions as qualified leads and adds a conversion action called "Lead form - Response qualified (Google-hosted)." However, this is only available for Search campaigns, and qualifying questions cannot be optional.

A practical tip for you is to ask for "work email" instead of "personal email". Google cannot auto-fill a work email from a personal Google account the way it can fill a Gmail address, so the user has to type it. That small bit of effort removes a large share of casual taps.

Do Lead Form Extensions Work for B2B SaaS Demos?

For most B2B SaaS demo campaigns, lead form extensions do not work as a main conversion path. They end up producing cheap leads that look great in Google Ads but disappoint in the CRM. As an ex-Googler, I treat lead forms as a test, not a default.

Here is why the pattern repeats.

1. Auto-fill removes the effort that signals intent

On a landing page, a buyer has to read, decide, and type. That effort is a filter. A lead form pre-fills most fields in one tap. People who were "just looking" become leads. The form converts curiosity, not buying intent.

2. The buyer never sees your product story

A demo request is a decision made after reading proof, such as use cases, pricing hints, security pages, and customer logos. A lead form skips all of it. Your sales rep ends up calling someone who does not know what you sell. We have all seen reported leads who do not remember submitting these forms, or even recall the brand name. One PPC consultant found that 100% of lead form leads in one account were junk, while Google still counted every one as a conversion.

3. Personal emails break your sales stack

Most auto-filled emails are Gmail addresses. That breaks enrichment tools, account matching, territory routing, and ABM scoring. A demo request from "jdoe1987@gmail.com" with no company name is close to useless for a sales development team.

4. Smart Bidding learns the wrong lesson

If your conversion goal is "Submit lead form," Smart Bidding will find more people who submit forms. It does not know which ones became pipeline. Each cheap junk lead teaches the algorithm to find more junk. This is the hidden cost because, honestly, lead forms can damage your account's learning, not just one campaign.

Our Smart Bidding progression guide covers why the conversion signal you feed the algorithm decides everything.

5. Buyers want to self-serve, not get called

Gartner's 2026 sales survey of 646 B2B buyers found that 67% prefer a rep-free buying experience. A lead form promises a fast way to "get in touch," then triggers a sales call the buyer may not want. A landing page that shows a product tour, pricing, or a calendar lets the buyer stay in control.

6. There is no calendar step

The best B2B demo flows book the meeting on the spot with a scheduling tool. A lead form ends at "Thanks, we will be in touch." Every hour between submit and first contact lowers your chance of booking the meeting.

Here is an example (not client data) of how lead forms can win on cost per lead and lose on pipeline:
Metric | Landing page | Lead form
Spend | $10,000 | $10,000
Leads | 50 | 125
Cost per lead | $200 | $80
Lead to SQL rate | 40% | 10%
SQLs | 20 | 12.5
Cost per SQL | $500 | $800
The lead form "wins" by 60% on cost per lead and loses by 60% on cost per SQL. If you only look inside Google Ads, you will scale the wrong thing. This is why we tell teams to judge every campaign on pipeline, not raw leads.

When Do Lead Form Extensions Work for SaaS?

Lead form extensions can work for SaaS when the sale is simple, the follow-up is fast, and the cost of a bad lead is low. They are not useless. They just fit a narrow set of motions.

Lead forms are worth testing when:

 • Your ACV is low (for example, under about $5,000 a year) and you sell through fast phone or chat follow-up.
 • You sell to SMBs or local businesses whose owners search on mobile and may not have a polished workflow for booking demos.
 • Your mobile landing page is slow or weak, and you cannot fix it soon. A lead form can be a short-term bridge.
 • The offer is low commitment, like a pricing sheet, a free audit, an ROI estimate, or a waitlist, rather than a 45-minute demo.
 • You have a strong SDR team that calls every lead within 5 minutes and is paid on meetings booked.
 • You already import offline conversions, so Google can learn which lead form leads became SQLs.

Lead forms usually fail when:

 • Your ACV is above about $15,000, and the buying group has 3 or more people.
 • You sell to enterprise accounts and need firmographic match before sales engages.
 • Your sales team only works leads that pass a lead scoring threshold.
 • Your campaign runs on Performance Max with broad reach, which can push the form to low-intent placements.
 • You cannot send CRM outcomes back to Google Ads.

Lead Form vs Landing Page: Which Is Better for B2B Demo Requests?

For B2B demo requests, a focused landing page is usually better than a lead form. The landing page filters intent, tells your product story, and can book the meeting directly. The lead form wins on speed and volume.
Factor | Lead form extension | Demo landing page
Friction | Very low (auto-fill) | Medium (user types)
Lead volume | Higher | Lower
Lead intent | Lower on average | Higher on average
Product context | None | Full (proof, use cases, security)
Work email capture | Only if you require it | Easy to enforce
Enrichment and routing | Hard with personal emails | Works with form tools and CRM
Calendar booking | No | Yes, with a scheduler
Retargeting audience | No site visit, so no pixel | Builds remarketing lists
Attribution | Harder, lives inside Google | Full site analytics
Best for | Low-ACV, fast-call SaaS | Mid-market and enterprise demos
One more point teams miss is that lead forms do not build remarketing audiences. You can retarget visitors to your landing page on Google, YouTube, and LinkedIn. A lead form submitter never touched your site.

If your landing page is the real problem, fix it before switching to lead forms. Start with our landing page best practices for PPC campaigns, then compare your numbers to B2B SaaS landing page conversion benchmarks.

More Volume vs More Qualified Lead: Which Lead Form Setting Should SaaS Teams Use?

B2B SaaS teams should use the "More qualified" setting. Google offers two form optimization modes:

 • More volume (default): Fewer steps. Google says this may bring more leads with lower intent.
 • More qualified: More steps, including a review step before submitting. Google says this may bring fewer leads with higher intent.

You can switch between modes at any time, and your fields and audiences stay the same. For demos, a lower lead count with higher intent is almost always the better trade. Leaving the default on "More volume" is one of the most common setup mistakes we see in audit calls.

How to Set Up a Lead Form Extension for B2B SaaS (Step by Step)

To set up a lead form extension, create a Search campaign with the Leads objective, add the "Submit lead form (Google hosted)" goal, build the form, and connect lead delivery to your CRM. Here is the B2B version of the process.

 1. Start in a separate test campaign. Do not add the form to your main demo campaign. Keep the test clean so it cannot pollute your core bidding.
 2. Choose the Leads objective and add the "Submit lead form (Google hosted)" conversion goal.
 3. Pick Search, not Performance Max, for the test. Qualifying questions and OTP verification work on Search only.
 4. Write a clear headline. Name the offer, such as "Get a 20-min product walkthrough." Avoid vague text like "Learn more."
 5. Add work fields: work email, company name, and job title. Skip generic email.
 6. Add 2 to 3 mandatory qualifying questions: company size, purchase timeline, and job role are a strong default set. Mark the answers that fit your ICP as qualifying.
 7. Turn on phone OTP verification if you require a phone number. It filters invalid numbers, spam, and bots.
 8. Set the form to "More qualified."
 9. Write a submission message with a next step. Link to a scheduling page so qualified leads can book right away.
 10. Add your privacy policy URL.
 11. Connect lead delivery through a webhook, Zapier, or the API, and add email alerts for speed-to-lead.
 12. Test the full flow yourself before launch. Submit a test lead and confirm it lands in your CRM with all fields.

Keep keyword targeting tight. Lead forms on broad match terms bring the worst traffic. Our B2B SaaS Google Ads account structure guide shows how to isolate tests like this.

How to Get Lead Form Leads Into Your CRM

Google Ads offers five ways to get lead form data out: CSV download, webhook, Zapier, the Google Ads API, and email notifications. For B2B SaaS, use a webhook or Zapier so leads reach your CRM in real time.
Method | Speed | Data window | Best for
CSV download | Manual | Last 30 days | One-off checks
Email alerts | Instant, one email per lead | N/A | Speed-to-lead backup
Zapier | Near real time | Ongoing | Teams without developers
Webhook | Real time | Ongoing | HubSpot, Salesforce, custom stacks
Google Ads API | Automated | Up to 60 days | Engineering-led teams
We believe two rules really matter here.

 1. Google only stores leads for 60 days, and CSV downloads cover only the last 30. If you are not syncing, you will lose leads. Google's own help page recommends downloading often for this reason.
 2. Speed decides demo outcomes. A lead form lead has the shortest attention span of any lead you get. Route it to a rep instantly and call within minutes.

How to Stop Junk Leads From Google Ads Lead Forms

To stop junk leads from lead forms, add friction where it signals intent, verify contact details, and train Google on qualified outcomes instead of raw submissions.

Use our checklist:

 • Require a work email and reject free domains in your CRM workflow.
 • Use mandatory qualifying questions with clear "not a fit" answers, such as "1 to 10 employees" if you sell to mid-market.
 • Turn on OTP phone verification for Search campaigns.
 • Switch to "More qualified" mode.
 • Exclude low-intent search terms like "free," "template," "jobs," and "course" with negative keywords.
 • Avoid Performance Max for lead form tests until you have clean offline conversion data.
 • Import CRM outcomes (MQL, SQL, opportunity, closed-won) back into Google Ads, so bidding learns from pipeline.
 • Lower the value of raw form submits or set them as secondary conversions once your SQL import works.
 • Log loss reasons for bad leads so that you can spot patterns by keyword and device.

The most important step is importing offline conversions. This tells Google which form submissions turned into actual deals, so it can focus on bringing in better leads. For the bigger picture, see Google Ads attribution for B2B SaaS.

How to Measure Lead Form Performance for SaaS

Measure lead form extensions by cost per SQL, meeting show rate, and pipeline created, compared side by side with your landing page campaign over the same period.
Metric | Why it matters | Where to track
Cost per lead | Easy to read, easy to misread | Google Ads
Qualified lead rate (Google tag) | Early quality signal from qualifying answers | Google Ads
Work email rate | Shows if leads can be enriched and routed | CRM
Contact rate | Share of leads sales actually reached | CRM or dialer
Meeting booked rate | The real demo outcome | CRM
Cost per SQL | Your true efficiency metric | CRM plus spend
Pipeline per $1 spent | What finance cares about | CRM
Do not call a winner on cost per lead. A lead form test should run long enough for leads to move through your sales stages, often 30 to 60 days in B2B.

A 30-Day Lead Form Test Plan for B2B SaaS

If you want to know whether lead forms work for your business, run a structured test instead of switching your whole account.

Week 0: Prep

 • Confirm eligibility and Advertiser Verification.
 • Set up a webhook or Zapier sync and SQL offline import.
 • Agree with sales on what counts as an SQL and how fast they will call.

Weeks 1 to 2: Launch

 • Launch a separate Search campaign with your top 5 to 10 high-intent exact and phrase match keywords.
 • Use "More qualified," work email, and 2 to 3 qualifying questions.
 • Give it 15% to 25% of the budget of your demo landing page campaign.

Weeks 3 to 4: Read early signals

 • Check work email rate, contact rate, and qualified lead tag rate.
 • Pause if fewer than about 1 in 4 leads use a work email or can be reached.

Days 30 to 60: Decide

 • Compare cost per SQL and pipeline per dollar against the landing page campaign.
 • Scale only if the lead form beats or matches the landing page on cost per SQL.
 • If it loses, turn it off and keep the learnings for your negative keyword list.

Teams that skip this test and turn lead forms on everywhere usually find the problem 2 to 3 months later, after Smart Bidding has already trained on bad data. If your account shows that pattern now, a Google Ads audit for SaaS is a good place to start.

Common Lead Form Extension Mistakes in B2B SaaS

Here are the eight common mistakes we see in almost every B2B SaaS account that uses lead forms:

 1. Leaving the default "More volume" setting on.
 2. Asking only for name, email, and phone, which invites Gmail addresses and no company data.
 3. Adding the form to the main demo campaign, which mixes signals and confuses bidding.
 4. Counting every form submission as a primary conversion with no SQL import.
 5. Running lead forms on broad match or Performance Max before quality is proven.
 6. Downloading CSVs by hand and losing leads after 30 days.
 7. Slow follow-up. A lead form lead called the next day is mostly a lost lead.
 8. No next step after submission. The thank-you message should link to a calendar.

The Bottom Line on Lead Form Extensions for SaaS Demos

A lead form extension is a volume tool. B2B SaaS demo campaigns need a quality tool. For most SaaS teams, the right setup is a fast, focused demo landing page, with lead forms used only as a controlled test for low-commitment offers or low-ACV products.

If you do test lead forms, protect your account and use "More qualified" mode, accept work email, add mandatory qualifying questions, verify phone numbers, and import SQLs back into Google Ads. Then judge the result on cost per SQL and pipeline.

Frequently asked
‍questions

Is a lead form extension the same as a lead form asset?

Yes. Google renamed ad extensions to "assets" in 2022. A lead form extension and a lead form asset are the same feature. It shows a form inside your ad so people can submit their details without visiting your website.

Are Google Ads lead forms worth it for B2B?

Google Ads lead forms are worth it for some B2B companies, mainly those with low deal sizes and fast phone follow-up. For mid-market and enterprise SaaS demos, they usually bring more leads but fewer sales-qualified ones. Test them in a separate campaign before using them widely.

Why are my Google lead form leads low quality?

Lead form leads are often low quality because Google auto-fills contact details, so submitting takes almost no effort. Buyers also never see your website, so they may not know your product. Fix this with work email fields, mandatory qualifying questions, OTP verification, and "More qualified" mode.

What is the minimum spend for Google Ads lead forms?

As of July 2026, Google's main help page no longer lists the old $50,000 lifetime spend requirement. The listed path is for reputable advertisers spending over $1,000 per account or $15,000 across accounts, who complete Advertiser Verification. You also need good policy history and an eligible vertical.

Can I use lead form extensions in Performance Max?

Yes. Lead form assets can serve in Search and Performance Max campaigns. For B2B SaaS, start with Search, because qualifying questions and OTP phone verification are only available in Search campaigns.

How do I connect Google Ads lead forms to HubSpot or Salesforce?

Connect Google Ads lead forms to HubSpot or Salesforce with a webhook, Zapier, or the Google Ads API. HubSpot also offers a native Google Ads lead sync. Always submit a test lead to confirm all fields map correctly.

How long does Google keep lead form data?

Google stores lead form data for 60 days. Manual CSV downloads only include the last 30 days. The API can export up to 60 days. Set up an automatic sync so you never lose leads.

Can I ask qualifying questions in a Google lead form?

Yes. You can add up to 5 pre-built qualifying questions, such as company size, job role, and purchase timeline, or write your own multiple-choice questions on Search campaigns. Answers you mark as qualifying get tagged as qualified leads in Google Ads.

Should I use a lead form or a landing page for demo requests?

Use a landing page for most B2B demo requests. It filters intent, shows your product story, builds remarketing lists, and can book the meeting with a calendar. Use a lead form only as a tested add-on for low-ACV offers or weak mobile pages.

Do lead form extensions work on desktop?

Yes. Lead form assets serve on both desktop and mobile in Search and Performance Max campaigns. They tend to get the most use on mobile, where auto-fill saves the most effort.
